Community Steps Up

We are blessed with a truly caring community. Our friends and neighbors have heeded our call when we’ve asked for donations of personal protective equipment to keep our caregivers safe. In fact, a dedicated group of about 50 community members is hard at work sewing reusable gowns for us. The group is spearheaded by seamstress Myla Palmer, who coordinates the volunteers, and Nurse Practitioner Ann Palmer, who coordinates the pickup.

“It has been a blessing to me to be able to do it because of the interaction in the community,” Myla said. “These people are just so gracious about giving their time. They truly want to help.”

One group helping to make the gowns is Corinne Marshall and five of her seven daughters, ages 18, 17, 13, 10 and 7. Corinne sees this project as a way set an example for her girls of what it means to serve the community.

So far the group has made nearly 600 gowns. The goal is to provide the hospital with 2,000.

“Doing this has really been an honor. The people who donate their time sewing have been some of the nicest in the community,” Myla said.

We thank them, and every person out there who has given their time and talents helping to ensure that our caregivers are protected. We talk about the incredible acts of Team Accountability we’ve seen inside the hospital. It’s evident that this Team Accountability is also happening across our community, and for that we are grateful.
