San Juan Regional Medical Center is partnering with the New Mexico National Guard and FEMA to ensure we are able to provide the best care for our patients and our community during the COVID-19 national emergency. Working together in preparation of increased patient volumes, we are setting up an Alternative Care Facility (ACF), also referred to as a Federal Medical Station by the military.
The ACF is housed on the third floor of San Juan Regional Medical Center with supplies and equipment for 50 beds, increasing our capacity to care for patients during the pandemic. We will be utilizing the ACF to care for COVID positive patients who don’t need to be hospitalized, but are not able to go home. This site allows them a safe place to receive assistance with minimal medical needs, such as oxygen, without overburdening the higher level of nursing care needed for COVID patients who do require hospitalization.
The New Mexico National Guard has been at San Juan Regional Medical Center helping us to set the federal assets up. In the future, the ACF will be staffed by our own employees and supplemented by the Medical Reserve Corps in order to meet the needs of our community.
