Our AirCare First Responders have played a critical role caring for our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. The crews, which include pilots, nurses and paramedics, have been busier than ever transporting critically ill COVID-19 patients both to and from San Juan Regional Medical Center.
Over the past year, the crews have learned how to wear the proper PPE to keep them safe in the air while still being able to care for some of our sickest patients. They have learned how to keep the virus contained so it doesn’t spread. They have learned new ways of decontaminating the helicopter and airplane with a UV light that looks similar to a camping lantern.
“What we have learned is that this pandemic has made our people even more competent, confident and capable of doing a really critical job,” said Mike Berve, AirCare Manager.
Our AirCare crews are doing a tremendous job getting patients where they need to be to receive the level of care they need, and making room to care for more patients at San Juan Regional Medical Center. We thank them for the Sacred Trust they provide to our community through their dedicated service.
