Emergency Department (ER)

At San Juan Regional Medical Center, our Emergency Department is here for you when you most need emergent, safe, quality care. As a level III trauma center, we serve our Four Corners community any time of day or night, 365 days a year. Our staff includes board-certified emergency medicine physicians, ACLS, PALS and TNCC certified nurses and Emergency Medical Technicians. While every effort is made to care for each patient promptly, treatment is based on medical urgency and not on the order of arrival. The most seriously ill or injured patients will be cared for first.

Do I Need Emergency Care?

There’s a difference between urgency and emergency. San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Department is equipped to handle medical emergencies, including:

  • Chest pain
  • Severe asthma or emphysema
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Sudden onset of severe headache or stroke symptoms
  • Choking
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Traumatic injuries
  • Uncontrollable bleeding

If you are currently experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 immediately. For care of minor illnesses or injuries, San Juan Health Partners Urgent Care is a faster, more affordable alternative to the emergency department.

Advanced Heart Care

If you experience a cardiovascular emergency, including signs and symptoms of a heart attack, you can take comfort knowing you are in expert hands. San Juan Regional Medical Center is a full Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI V6 Accreditation from the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Accreditation Services. We use a specialized treatment called percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) as the primary treatment for acute heart attacks. This ensures that patients experiencing an acute heart attack receive rapid treatment in our cardiac cath lab to minimize damage to the heart muscle.

Advanced Stroke Care

San Juan Regional Medical Center is ready to handle a full range of stroke-related medical problems. When a patient arrives at the emergency room and a stroke is suspected, a “stroke alert” is called. This notifies all of the appropriate departments within the hospital and prioritizes the patient’s emergent needs so intervention can happen as soon as possible.

Pre-Hospital Care

When you call 911 and need to come to our Emergency Department, you’ll either be taken by ambulance with our EMS providers, or with our AirCare air ambulance service. San Juan Regional Medical Center’s EMS Department is the only one in the state to receive the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® EMS Gold Plus Award for implementing quality improvement measures for the treatment of patients who experience severe heart attacks. Our AirCare Department is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS to ensure the highest safety and customer care standards through a rigorous audit process.
