“San Juan Regional is making life better”

When Walter Dorman, aka “Wally D,” was sick and not getting better, he knew it was time to go to the hospital. Here is his story, in his own words, about the care he received at San Juan Regional Medical Center.

“I told my wife, ‘Okay, it's time to go to the ER.’ I got up to get ready and I passed out. She called the ambulance, and the first responders took care of me quite well. I do live upstairs, and I thought, ‘how am I going to get down these stairs?’ They had a special chair that went down the stairs. I was expecting to feel every bump of the stairs, and it was just amazing. It was like an escalator. I glided right down the stairs and they got me in the ambulance and immediately assessed what was going on and took me to the hospital.

When I got to the hospital, they knew that I was really sick, my blood pressure was really low. The doctors came right in. It was my first time staying the night in the hospital. There was just a peace about it that I didn't have any worries or anything. They got me a room and then it was just immediate care from the nurses. I had a couple of sets of nurses, one for the night and one for the morning, and they were just amazing. My wife stayed with me. They were very attentive to her and just both of us and made sure I was always taken care of.

Everyone at San Juan Regional Medical Center was absolutely amazing. From the doctors to the nurses, to the emergency teams, it was just a great experience. I feel like it was above and beyond what anyone could have expected.

I would recommend San Juan Regional Medical Center because it's a place where I felt very safe and very well cared for. I could see that they care about our community and I’m a community person. It’s great all the support that they give local programs and how they try to better our community. San Juan Regional is making life better for people here in the Four Corners, not only because of their care and what they did for me, but they're also community people and they really care.”
