Tuesday, July 30, 2013 Ambulance Services Receive Renewed Accreditation
San Juan Regional Medical Center’s air ambulance service, AirCare, has received a three-year accreditation renewal from the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS). AirCare provides around-the-clock transport for critically ill or injured patients in the Four Corners Region to prompt medical care.

The service, which consists of a helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft, was evaluated by CAMTS’s accreditation standards and criteria to measure a program’s level of quality, patient care, and safety. Aircraft, maintenance, facilities, program personnel, management, operations, equipment, and supplies are reviewed. Other considerations include proper pilot and staff training, community outreach, and FAA certifications among other things. AirCare has been accredited since 1995.

“The CAMTS accreditation process focuses on the delivery of safe and quality patient care in the air transport environment,” said AirCare Manager, Mike Berve. “An onsite survey and extensive review of all aspects of the operation must show significant compliance of standards set by the CAMTS board of directors.”
