Thursday, January 23, 2020 SJRMC and San Juan County Thank State Lawmakers for Capital Outlay Funds

San Juan Regional Medical Center would like to thank our state lawmakers for investing in the health and wellbeing of our community through Capital Outlay Funds approved in 2019. San Juan Regional Medical Center would specifically like to thank Governor Michelle Lujan-Grisham, Senator Steve Neville, Senator Bill Sharer, Representative Paul Bandy, Representative Rod Montoya and Representative James Strickler for their support of our community owned and operated hospital. Through the 2019 Capital Outlay Funds, San Juan Regional Medical Center received:

  • $1.9 million for improvements to Women’s Services
  • $1.4 million for mechanical infrastructure improvements

The design phase is currently underway to modernize Women’s Services provided by San Juan Regional Medical Center. Planned improvements will start right when patients and visitors arrive at the Childbirth Center with a brand new entrance. All of the unit’s labor and delivery rooms will undergo renovations. An additional lactation room and a new staff break room will be added for employees and unified nursing stations across the unit will help improve privacy for patients and improve workflow for our caregivers. The special care nursey will also see improvements with more private, individualized spaces for our infants and more documentation room for nurses. The renovations are planned for late spring or early summer.

“We are extremely thankful for Governor Lujan-Grisham, Senators Neville and Sharer and Representatives Bandy, Montoya and Strickler for their investment in our local, County-owned hospital. San Juan Regional Medical Center not only serves as the Four Corners regional leader in healthcare but also one of our area’s primary economic drivers. Upgrades to the Women’s Inpatient Services unit and the hospital’s mechanical plant will keep San Juan Regional Medical Center on the forefront of providing excellent health services to our community,” Jack Fortner, County Commission Chairman, said.

The $1.4 million for mechanical infrastructure improvements include a central utility plant chiller replacement which will be completed in May; a cooling tower replacement which is set to arrive at the end of February; and domestic hot water system upgrades, which are currently in the design and engineering phase. These infrastructure improvements will result in improved patient and family comfort, lower energy and water use and lower annual operating expenses.

“As a community owned and operated hospital, San Juan Regional Medical Center provides essential healthcare services to the Four Corners area. The Capital Outlay Funds we have received thanks to Governor Lujan-Grisham, Senators Neville and Sharer and Representatives Bandy, Montoya and Strickler will help to ensure that we can meet the diverse needs of our patients and community and improve care for those we are privileged to serve,” said Jeff Bourgeois, President and CEO of San Juan Regional Medical Center.
