Construction Begins in San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Department
San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Department is undergoing renovations to meet growing patient volumes and better serve our patients and community. Construction started this week and will be complete in early 2019.
Improvements patients can look forward to include an increased number of treatment rooms and more space for treatment in progress and results waiting areas. The renovations will also improve the reception area, waiting room and amenities to ensure our patients and visitors are comfortable. When the project is completed, the new Emergency Department will have:
7,932 square feet of renovated space
1,000 square feet of added new space
7 new TIP (Treatment in Progress) spaces
3 new treatment rooms created
1 new multi-patient exam holding bay
Enhanced waiting and restroom facilities
There has been a significant increase in the number of patients cared for at SJRMC’s Emergency Department over the last several years with an average of 170 visits per day in 2017 as compared to 130 in 2012. That’s a 30 percent increase in service to our community over the last five years, and we expect to grow in service to our community.
“This expansion and renovation will provide much needed space for treatment of the most severely ill and injured patients,” said Jeff Bourgeois, President and CEO of San Juan Regional Medical Center. “We are using our Core Values- including Thoughtful Anticipation, Sacred Trust and Creative Vitality- to thoughtfully design the project to provide the best possible patient experience while renovations are being made.”
During construction, San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Department will remain open 24/7 to serve our patients. We encourage those needing service in the Emergency Department to enter through the main ER entrance on the hospital’s north side. There will be no access from the main hospital during construction. To keep everyone well, please remember to limit the number of people you bring to the ER with you to ensure that you aren’t exposing them to potential illnesses.
