Sobering Center Celebrates Grand Opening
The multi-agency effort to create a safe place to get San Juan County’s inebriated residents off the streets has paid off. On Monday, February 29, 2016, the new Sobering Center and Joint Intervention Program will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house.
The Sobering Center is a partnership between San Juan Regional Medical Center, San Juan County, the City of Farmington, the San Juan County Adult Detention Center, Presbyterian Medical Services and Totah Behavioral Health Authority. Larry Smith, the Director of Support Services for San Juan Regional Medical Center, and Mike Stark, the San Juan County Operations Officer, were project managers, working with Candice Thompson from Winters Construction to complete the project. “There was a lot of collaboration,” Smith said.
In addition to the construction, San Juan Regional Medical Center and San Juan County also furnished the entire Sobering Center. The facility, which opens to the public in March, will be staffed by Presbyterian Medical Services. It is conveniently located next to the new Joint Intervention Program so people utilizing the services can begin working towards their sobriety.
