Meet a Pet Therapist Event
San Juan Regional Medical Center is proud to announce that during Volunteer Week we will hold the Meet a Pet Therapist event on Thursday, April 16, at 2:00 p.m. in the Healing Garden across from Café La Ventana at 801 West Maple Street. This event is full of bark but no bite and is sure to make you smile. The community is invited to attend and learn more about the pet therapy program and how this program impacts the lives of our patients. Those who attend the event will have the opportunity to meet our pet therapists as well as our four-legged healers, hear from those who have benefited from the program, and have the chance to take part in a prize drawing. Refreshments will be served.
Interaction with animals is proven to reduce stress and anxiety while increasing feelings of wellbeing, and this event is sure to do the same for those who attend. Our Pet Therapists are certified by Pet Partners, a non-profit program that trains and screens each volunteer and their pet. Many hospitals have similar programs that bring dogs into the healing process through interaction with patients. These programs are proven to have many benefits, and our pet therapy dogs who work at San Juan Regional Medical Center are here to give joy and companionship to those whose spirits might need a little lift.
San Juan Regional Medical Center is hoping to expand the program, and those interested in participating should contact Teresa Becker, Manager of Volunteer and Ambassador Services, at 505.609.6156.
