SJRMC Is Now CMS Approved Provider for the Delivery of Carotid Artery Stenting
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced positive and promising results for San Juan Regional Medical Center. The hospital is now an approved site to provide carotid artery stenting (CAS).
This achievement demonstrates the hospital’s dedication to its vision to be known as the most personalized quality healthcare provider – providing patients with comprehensive cardiac care right here in the Four Corners region, close to family when care is needed.
In order for San Juan Regional Medical Center to become certified, the facility had to submit a written affidavit attesting that we have met the minimum standards outlined in the national coverage determination. These standards include physician training, facility device inventory and support, and data collection to evaluate outcomes during a required reevaluation period.
Carotid artery stenting is a procedure that can be used to open narrowed carotid arteries. It is also called carotid angioplasty and stenting. There are two carotid arteries – one on each side of the neck – that supply blood to the brain. Fatty buildup, or plaque, can narrow or block these arteries. When one or both of your carotid arteries are narrowed, it can make it hard for blood to flow to the brain. Carotid artery stenting may improve blood flow to your brain and lower your risk of having a stroke.
“San Juan Regional Medical Center and San Juan Regional Heart Center have a highly skilled team who have worked tirelessly on becoming an approved site for carotid artery stenting in the Four Corners region,” said Rick Wallace, President and CEO. “San Juan Regional Heart Center services also include a 24/7 heart catheterization lab, dedicated cardiology unit, diagnostic cardiology, congestive heart failure clinic, and cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, offering a comprehensive array of heart services.”
