Wednesday, January 14, 2015 San Juan Regional Heart Center Celebrates National Heart Month
In celebration of February’s National Heart Month, San Juan Regional Heart Center will host its seventh annual Goosebump Race and A Fair of the Heart health fair on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at San Juan Regional Heart Center (407 South Schwartz Avenue in Farmington). Heart disease continues to be the leading cause of death in the United States - these annual activities raise awareness, educate the community about the prevention and treatment of heart disease, and empower people to play an active role in their heart health.

The day’s events start with A Fair of the Heart health fair from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Several free screenings including baseline EKGs, blood pressure checks, BMI or body mass index measurement, target heart rate calculation, and risk for peripheral vascular disease will be offered along with open discussions with San Juan Regional Heart Center cardiologists. Early heart attack recognition, heart-healthy nutrition, leading an active lifestyle and many other educational booths, including an opportunity to meet our new electrophysiologist, an expert in the treatment of heart rhythm disorders, will be available. Participants 12 and older can also sign up for free community CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) training sessions…register for a session now at sanjuanregional.com/afairoftheheart.

The Goosebump Race starts at 11:00 a.m. and includes a one mile fun run or timed 5k race. Early registration is now open until February 6 at sanjuanregional.com/afairoftheheart. Registration is free and includes a race packet and t-shirt. Packet pickup and late registration are on Friday, February 13, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at San Juan Regional Heart Center (407 South Schwartz Avenue in Farmington).

Throughout the month of February, a $15 lipid panel will be available at San Juan Regional Medical Center (801 West Maple Street in Farmington) from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during weekends; and at the Outpatient Diagnostic Center (2300 East 30th Street, Building C in Farmington) from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. No appointment is necessary. The lipid panel tests for cholesterol levels including HDL, LDL, and triglycerides, which are important indicators of heart health. Adults who would like to take advantage of this opportunity are asked to fast for 12 hours before the test to ensure accuracy; water is permitted. Lab results will be mailed to the patient, and can be discussed with a physician.
