San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Childbirth Center has two brand new classes to help expecting moms prepare for the arrival of their little ones. All classes are offered free of charge, compliments of your community owned and operated hospital. 

If you’ve ever wondered what “eating for two” really entails, join us for our Pregnancy and Nutrition class. This two-hour class covers the essential nutrients needed for a healthy pregnancy, what good sources of those nutrients are, how many calories you should consume by trimester, fun recipes to try and more. The next class will be held Thursday, March 30 at 1:30 p.m. in the Childbirth Center Classroom on the fifth floor of San Juan Regional Medical Center.

We are also offering a Pregnant Teen Spring Break Boot Camp. This five-day “boot camp” is designed to address all the unique challenges faced by pregnant teens, ages 13 to 19, in a concentrated format. The course will cover what to expect during each trimester of pregnancy, self-care and nutrition needs for a pregnant teen, what happens during the childbirth and delivery process and the postpartum period, as well as breastfeeding and infant care. Childbirth Educator Kathy Coleman, a longtime educator, will also address unique issues such as finishing school while facing the challenges of being a young parent. Teens are welcome to bring a partner, parent or friend as a support person. To make sure every expecting mom’s specific questions are addressed, this course is limited to five teens and their partners.
