Monday, May 12, 2014 Hand Hygiene Promotion Features “Wash Hands Zones”
Proper hand washing is the first line of defense in preventing the spread of infectious disease, and all who enter San Juan Regional Medical Center facilities play a role. As part of its continuing hand hygiene efforts, San Juan Regional Medical Center has established “Wash Hands Zones” at each of its facilities.

These zones are located on every floor of the hospital outside the main and central elevators, and outside every patient room, asking visitors to wash their hands upon arrival to the floor, and in and out of patient rooms. Outlying clinics are also equipped with “Wash Hands Zones” in waiting rooms and throughout each facility, prompting patients to use the provided alcohol foam.

“Our patients’ safety is our top priority,” said Infection Control and Employee Health Manager, Bonnie Adams. “While staff is vigilant about this practice, patients are encouraged to ask their care providers if they washed their hands when they come into the room, or before they start a procedure.”
