Friday, September 6, 2019 Neurosurgical Services Now at San Juan Health Partners Specialty Services

San Juan Health Partners Specialty Services is now offering Neurosurgery at its Durango clinic. Dr. Dominic Cannella and Dr. Paul Davis are pleased to offer a full range of neurosurgical care as the only Neurosurgeons providing these specialized services in Southern Colorado. This includes any type of cranial injury or problem involving the head; the complete spectrum of spinal problems including the neck, middle back and low back; as well as peripheral nerve problems such as carpal tunnel syndrome and ulnar nerve problems at the elbow.

Patients will be seen in the San Juan Health Partners Specialty Services office located at 1485 Florida Road, Suite A 103 in Durango, and any needed surgery will be performed at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington. Patients will be able to receive post-operative care back in Durango.

“We can expertly diagnose and treat patients close to home. There’s no need for the patient to travel hours to Denver or Albuquerque. We provide total neurosurgical care from head to toe,” said Dr. Cannella. “People have a tendency to make a better recovery if they are close to home and under familiar circumstances.”

One exciting option for patients is minimally invasive spine surgery. This technique involves a very small incision, which often leads to less time spent in the hospital with less pain and a faster recovery. While not everyone is a candidate for minimally invasive surgery, patients who are experiencing difficulty walking, numbness in their arms or legs, or pain that radiates into the arms or legs may experience immediate relief from surgical management.

“To be able to go in with a very small incision, millimeter and a half, take away whatever that pathology is, and then have people up walking the next day without any leg pain, that feels pretty good. It’s something I enjoy a lot,” said Dr. Davis.

In addition to Neurosurgery, San Juan Health Partners Specialty Services offers comprehensive Cardiology and Urology services to patients in Southern Colorado. The clinic is accepting new patients and is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. To schedule an appointment, please call 970.444.0260.
