Wednesday, November 11, 2020 San Juan Regional Medical Center Restricts Visitation Due to COVID-19 Increases

San Juan Regional Medical Center has re-enacted a visitor restriction policy in order to safeguard the health and safety of our patients and caregivers during the COVID-19 pandemic. We will not be permitting visitors into the main hospital, the Emergency Department and San Juan Regional Rehabilitation Hospital effective November 11, 2020. Signs are posted at the entrance of each location with this information. In addition, patients visiting our San Juan Health Partners clinics should not bring anyone else to their appointments with them, unless they need the assistance of a caregiver. Parents taking a child to an appointment should only bring in the primary child who has an appointment and leave any other siblings home with a caregiver.

Exceptions to visitor restrictions may be made on a case-by-case basis, with special considerations made for minor patients, end-of-life situations, support person for expectant mothers, and patients lacking decisional capacity. Any exceptions will be limited to one family member or caregiver. Those exceptions will be made under the direction of the bedside nurse, attending physician or management resource nurse.

This policy aims to protect visitors from exposure to COVID-19 by utilizing alternative mechanisms for patient contact.  Visitors are encouraged to use technology such as FaceTime and Skype to speak to their loved ones. They can also go to sanjuanregional.com and send an e-card from our website at https://www.sanjuanregional.com/egreeting/.

The health and safety of our community is our number one priority. We must recommit ourselves to limiting exposure to COVID-19 by restricting the number of people in our facilities. With community spread increasing in prevalence, any visitor can unknowingly put many patients, staff, and caregivers at risk. It’s up to all of us to be vigilant to help ensure everyone’s safety. In addition to not visiting the hospital during COVID-19, there are other things you can do to help prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

  • Wash your hands frequently and use hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Limit contact to immediate household members.
  • Stay home unless you must go out for necessities such as groceries.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
