Friday, February 2, 2018 SJRMC Announces 2018/2019 Board of Directors
San Juan Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce its 2018/2019 Board of Directors, which includes three new members and new leadership. The 2018/2019 Board was approved at Wednesday night’s Quarterly Corporation meeting.    

Ron Rosen is now the Chair of the Board, taking over for Janel Ryan, who just completed her two-year term as Chair. She will serve two more years as the Immediate Past Chair, representing the New Mexico Association of Educational Retirees. Mr. Rosen represents the Farmington Chamber of Commerce. Sherri Galloway, representing the Farmington Rotary, is now the 1st Vice Chair. Terri Fortner, representing Desert Gold Daughters of American Revolution, is now serving as Board Secretary. San Juan Regional Medical Center would like to thank Sandy Williams, who previously held the position and represents the San Juan Rotary, for her ten years of service to the Board. 

Dr. Damon Kalcich is now serving as Chief of Staff, taking over for Dr. Holly Abernethy. Dr. Kalcich, who has been with San Juan Health Partners General Surgery since 2012, represents San Juan Regional Medical Center Medical Staff. San Juan Regional Medical Center thanks Dr. Abernethy for her five years of service to the Board as Chief of Staff.

Dr. Jason Lucas is joining the Board as Vice Chief of Staff, also representing San Juan Regional Medical Center Medical Staff. Dr. Lucas has been practicing at Orthopedic Associates since 2004. Dr. Lucas received his undergraduate and master’s degree from Brigham Young University. He received his Doctor Osteopathic Medicine at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, Texas in 1998 where he graduated as senior class president. He completed an internship and orthopedic surgery residency at Doctors Hospital in Columbus, Ohio in 2003 and completed a sports medicine, shoulder, and knee fellowship at LA Orthopedics in 2004.

New Board Member John Byrom represents Four Corners Economic Development. He was raised in Farmington, went to Texas A&M for college where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, and came back to Farmington in 1994 to join J.D. Simmons, Inc. John became President and CEO of the company in 2003, then joined PESCO in 2017 as Business Development Manager. He has served as board member and past President of the Independent Petroleum Association of New Mexico, on the board of the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association, and is presently on the Board of Advisors for the Denver based Western Energy Alliance. Inspired by his community serving parents, John has taken an active role in helping to make the Farmington area a better place to live.

New Board Member Jeff Howle represents the San Juan College Foundation, Inc. He recently retired as CEO of Citizens Bank and Citizens Bankshares after 35 years with the company, where he also served as President and Chief Operating Officer. He has lived in Farmington since 1955 and is very active in the community, where he currently serves on several boards and committees including the San Juan College Foundation Board and San Juan Medical Foundation Board. Mr. Howle is a member of Farmington Rotary Club and the Director on Western States Director Education Foundation Board (past Treasurer) and member of Four Corners Economic Development.

Your commitment to improving healthcare in the Four Corners is extraordinary,” Board Chair Ron Rosen said. “I would like to recognize the contributions Janel Ryan, Sandy Williams, and Dr. Holly Abernethy made over the past few years. Their guidance and leadership has benefitted the health and well-being of our entire community.” 

The hospital’s corporation is unique, with community members representing non-profit organizations in San Juan County making up the board of directors and general corporation membership. These individuals represent the voice of the community and provide guidance and leadership to the hospital.
