Tuesday, July 14, 2020 SJRMC Announces Community Health Needs Assessment Results

San Juan Regional Medical Center has released its list of the most critical health needs as perceived by the citizens of San Juan County. As a community owned and operated hospital with deep roots dating back to before New Mexico was a state, San Juan Regional Medical Center was founded more than 100 years ago to meet community need and ensure that our friends and neighbors could get the quality care they deserved right here at home. It’s part of who we are, and we are proud to continue this important work today. As part of our strategic planning process, our Community Health Needs Assessment is conducted every three years with input and perspectives from our community stakeholders to assure that we are continuing to meet community needs. The 2020 Community Health Needs Assessment identified the following areas of need:

  • Diabetes
  • Mental Health
  • Substance Abuse
  • Obesity
  • Access to Care

Our experience with the local impact of the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted a disproportionate impact on the local Native American populations. Other at-risk populations (those with underlying health conditions) were also severely impacted. As a healthcare leader in San Juan County, San Juan Regional Medical Center is committed to being a catalyst in addressing health disparities and being part of solutions to make positive impacts on social determinants of health.

Now that we have this valuable input from the community, our Board of Directors has tasked us with working to address each of these needs. We have put together a task force to create actionable steps to address these local health disparities and improve the health and wellbeing of our community.
