Monday, May 1, 2023 SJRMC's New Chief Executive Officer Takes the Helm

San Juan Regional Medical Center welcomes a new era with new president and chief executive officer Jason Rounds taking the helm at the hospital effective May 1, 2023.

Rounds has more than 30 years of executive level experience in not for profit and academic medical centers, most recently serving as Chief Administrative Officer and Associate Vice Chancellor for Clinical Finance at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock. He spent 14 years with CHRISTUS Health in a variety of executive roles including market president in Texarkana, Texas.

Rounds is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and is a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (FHFMA). He has a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Sciences from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and a Master of Business Administration from Centenary College in Shreveport.

“Jason brings a wealth of experience in the growing and ever-changing world of healthcare and has demonstrated financial expertise and leadership,” said Sam Gonzales, Board Chair. “We know that his knowledge and leadership will serve San Juan Regional Medical Center and the community well.”

Rounds is no stranger to New Mexico. He was born in Roswell and spent five years at the University of New Mexico’s Health Sciences Center and believes his transition back to New Mexico will be a smooth one.

“We were really impressed with the community from the very first time we visited Farmington. It seemed very much like home to us,” Rounds said. “I’m very inspired with the talent that’s here. San Juan Regional Medical Center already has a good foundation and is positioned really well for the future.”

As Rounds begins his leadership, he isn’t planning on making major changes right away. He plans on being very visible much of his first 90 days on the job, going on a listening tour and meeting with hospital staff and community.

“I look forward to working together with the community,” Rounds said. “I want to be sure that San Juan Regional Medical Center is doing all that it can to live up to our mission of better. As a community hospital we are all about better lives, better health and better care.”

San Juan Regional Medical Center will host a community meet and greet with Jason Rounds on Thursday, May 4 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Artifacts Gallery in Farmington.
