San Juan Regional Interventional Spine Now Offering Intracept® Procedure for Chronic Low Back Pain Relief
San Juan Regional Interventional Spine is excited to offer the Intracept® Procedure for the relief of chronic vertebrogenic low back pain. Intracept® is a minimally invasive implant free outpatient procedure that’s proven to be safe and to provide long-term pain relief after a single procedure.
Patients often describe vertebrogenic pain as being in the middle of their low back that is made worse by physical activity, prolonged sitting, bending forward or lifting. This distinct type of chronic low back pain is caused by damage to the vertebral endplates from disc degeneration or simply the wear and tear that can occur from everyday living.
Intracept® is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that relieves vertebrogenic pain by heating the basivertebral nerve (BVN) with a radiofrequency probe to stop it from sending pain signals to the brain. The procedure is implant free and preserves the overall structure of the spine. It is the only FDA-approved procedure to treat chronic vertebrogenic low back pain. The majority of patients experience significant improvement in function and pain three-months post procedure that are sustained more than five years after a single treatment.
You may be a candidate for Intracept® if you have had:
- Chronic low back pain for at least six months,
- Have tried conservative care for at least six months, and
- MRI showing features consistent with Modic changes – indicating damage at the vertebral endplates has led to inflammation.
The experts at San Juan Regional Interventional Spine have been performing this procedure for over a year with more than 100 successful procedures.
