Wednesday, March 26, 2025 San Juan Regional Medical Center Announces 2025/2026 Board of Directors

San Juan Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce the 2025/2026 Board of Directors; new board members were approved by our corporation members at their most recent quarterly meeting.     

Sara Kaynor, a longtime corporation member and two-time past board chair representing New Covenant United Methodist Church, is now serving as board chair for a third time. Shaña Reeves, who represents the City of Farmington, now moves to the position of Immediate Past Chair. We’re pleased to welcome Dr. Joseph Pope and Leslie Thompson as new board members. 

Leslie is a retired registered nurse representing San Juan Medical Foundation. She was born and raised in Farmington and dedicated 38 years of her distinguished nursing career serving our community’s healthcare needs. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of New Mexico and earned her Nurse Practitioner Certification in Family Planning from Oklahoma University. Leslie continues to be active in the community as a volunteer at SJRMC, Commissioner for the City of Farmington Parks and Recreation, and Board Member of San Juan Medical Foundation. 

Dr. Pope is a retired family medicine physician representing the River Reach Foundation. He served our country in the United States Navy and went on to receive his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of New Mexico. Dr. Pope served patients in the Farmington community for nearly 30 years, founding Piñon Family Practice in 1998. He previously served as Chief of Staff and Vice Chief of Staff of the SJRMC Board, and his community involvement and leadership spans many local organizations, including the San Juan IPA Board of Directors, Childhaven, the San Juan College Board of Trustees and the River Reach Foundation. Dr. Pope is also an accomplished musician who plays the viola. 

Board member Dr. James Spence is leaving the board after completing nine years of service and board member Danny Beyhan is leaving the board after three years. We are grateful for their dedication to making our community a better place to live through their service to the board.

Dr. David Devitre, hospitalist at San Juan Regional Medical Center, will continue to serve as Chief of Staff role with Dr. James Boyd, general and bariatric surgeon, continues to serve as Vice Chief of Staff. Anna Buffington is assuming the vice chair role, Hyla Calcote is assuming the role of secretary, and Linda Benson is serving as the Auxiliary representative. 

“I’m thrilled to welcome Dr. Pope and Ms. Thompson to the board. With their extensive medical knowledge and commitment to bettering the health and care of our community, they will bring invaluable experience and insight to our Board of Directors,” said Board Chair Kaynor. “I look forward to working together to improve lives in the Four Corners.”

The countless hours they have spent in service to our community hospital has made a real impact on improving healthcare for our patients,” added Jason Rounds, SJRMC President and CEO.

San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Corporation is unique in its structure. Community members representing non-profit organizations in San Juan County make up the general corporation membership, which elects the Board of Directors. These individuals represent the voice of the community and provide guidance and leadership to the hospital.
