San Juan Regional Medical Center Announces September Childbirth Preparation Classes
Fall is on the way and if you’re an expecting parent with a baby on the way, it’s time to sign up for San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Childbirth Preparation Series classes. They are offered free of charge as a benefit to expecting parents in our community, compliments of your community owned and operated hospital.
These all-encompassing classes explore a variety of topics and address top concerns new parents have, from the basics of a healthy pregnancy to preparing for labor, birth and beyond. As a Baby Friendly® facility we emphasize whole person care, from the physical and emotional challenges of labor and delivery to what a new mom might experience postpartum.
We are pleased to announce the arrival of Kathy Coleman as our Childbirth Educator. Kathy has a wealth of educational experience, including Science Teacher and Science Department Chair at Bloomfield High School, as well as multiple positions at Dzilth-na-o-dith-hle Community Grant School. Kathy holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana, a master’s degree in Secondary Science Education from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, and an Occupational Health and Safety Certificate from San Juan College.
“I sincerely believe that knowledge is power and once you understand something it enhances your ability to experience it. I am really excited about this opportunity because I know that childbirth can be scary but by understanding the process you can appreciate just what an incredible miracle it is,” Kathy said. “I look forward to educating patients so they can be active participants in their healthcare.”
The Childbirth Preparation Series classes will be held Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the fifth floor Childbirth Center Classroom at San Juan Regional Medical Center. Classes run once a week from September 8 through September 29. They are offered free of charge to expectant mothers and their birth partners as a community benefit to make sure your baby gets the best start in life.
