San Juan Regional Medical Center is proud to announce that ICU Nurse Heather Robinson is now a DAISY Award® recipient. Robinson was honored by San Juan Regional Medical Center leaders in a surprise presentation Monday.

Robinson, who has been a nurse for 10 years and an ICU nurse for the last three, was nominated by one of her fellow caregivers and nurse mentor.

“If I was to choose a nurse to care for me, if I was hospitalized, I would choose Heather. The compassion and patience she shows to both patients and coworkers is beyond outstanding. She brightens up the unit with her upbeat demeanor and ‘for the team’ attitude. A busy shift does not hinder her from finding creative ways to meet the needs of her patients or their families,” he wrote in his nomination.

Robinson not only works as a nurse in the ICU, she is also a charge nurse, a member of the Rapid Response Team and a preceptor. But above all, the nomination said, she is exceptionally caring. San Juan Regional Medical Center is proud to announce Heather Robinson, RN, as a DAISY Award® honoree for the exceptional care she shows to both her patients and fellow caregivers.

“It was definitely a surprise, very shocking. But I am just so honored that my coworker spent the time to say all those kind things about me,” Robinson said. “I’ve actually helped institute the DAISY Awards® in this hospital as a committee leader, so I am super touched to have gotten a DAISY,” Robinson said.

The DAISY Foundation stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. It was created by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died at the age of 33 of complications of an autoimmune disease to honor Patrick’s memory and recognize nurses who provide the kind and compassionate care they experienced firsthand.

San Juan Regional Medical Center is accepting DAISY Award® nominations on a quarterly basis. The form is available on https://www.sanjuanregional.com/daisy and nominations can also be submitted via email to daisyaward@sjrmc.net.
