Monday, June 10, 2024 San Juan Regional Medical Center Offering Three New Childbirth Classes Focused on Siblings

San Juan Regional Medical Center is adding three new childbirth education classes to our already extensive lineup to help siblings prepare for the birth of a little brother or sister. We invite you to sign up for a class or share this information with an expecting parent.

Introducing a Sibling:

This 90-minute course for parents covers all the basics about bringing home a new baby. Topics include when and how to discuss the pregnancy and how to involve the sibling(s) at various age levels in appropriate ways. We will go over jealousy, behavior regression, providing extra love and support to your older child/children and relying on your support system for help as you get ready for your growing family.

Mommy is Having a Baby! Ages 3-5:

This class is geared toward preschool-aged children who have not yet entered kindergarten. The short class will last 30-45 minutes (depending on the children attending) and will cover very basic information about babies, dos and don’ts, practice with a doll, how to act at the hospital and story time. Children will receive a coloring book and a sticker. Parents will receive an email requiring a response to basic questions to help tailor the class to their child’s age and needs.

I’m Going to be a Big Sister/Big Brother! Ages 5-7:

This class will last 45-60 minutes for 5 to 7-year-olds in kindergarten and up to cover the basics of how the baby grows, eats, how to act at the hospital and in a hospital room. We will discuss the role of a big sister/big brother with a new baby as well as safety aspects for the baby. We will read a story at the end of the presentation and then children will make a birthday card for the new baby. Children will receive a coloring book and sticker and take home the card they make. Older children are welcome to attend but the content of the class will remain the same. Parents will receive an email requiring a response to basic questions to help tailor the class to their child’s age and needs.

These are just a few of the many classes we’re offering this summer.
