San Juan Regional Medical Center Receives the 2013 Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence
San Juan Regional Medical Center is a recipient of the 2013 Healthgrades® Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™, and is ranked among the top five percent in the nation for overall clinical excellence. In addition, San Juan Regional Medical Center is the only hospital in New Mexico and the Four Corners Region to receive this distinction.
“This level of clinical achievement is a testament to our commitment to providing high-quality care,” said San Juan Regional Medical Center President and CEO, Rick Wallace.
San Juan Regional Medical Center has also been recognized with the Healthgrades Pulmonary Care Excellence Award™ for four years in a row (2010-2013), and the Healthgrades Critical Care Excellence Award™ for 2013. Included as part of the Healthgrades Pulmonary Care Excellence Award is a Five-Star Recipient for Overall Pulmonary Services for four years in a row (2010-2013), a Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease for five years in a row (2009-2013), and a Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Pneumonia for five years in a row (2009-2013).
Included as part of the Healthgrades Critical Care Excellence Award is a Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Sepsis for three years in a row (2011-2013), the Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Pulmonary Embolism in 2013, and the Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Respiratory Failure for two years in a row (2012-2013).
Other areas of distinction include cardiac care including the Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Heart Attack for four years in a row (2010-2013), neurosciences including the Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Stroke in 2013, and orthopedic services including the Five-Star Recipient for Overall Orthopedic Services in 2013, the Five-Star Recipient for Joint Replacement in 2013, the Five-Star Recipient for Total Knee Replacement in 2013, and the Five-Star Recipient for Hip Fracture Treatment in 2013. “We work very hard to put our patients first by personalizing their care and offering exceptional services delivered by highly-trained staff,” said Wallace, in reference to receiving these Healthgrades awards.
Healthgrades independently analyzes over 4,500 hospitals a year using three years of Medicare patient data from 2009-2011 that covers the majority of high volume diagnoses and procedures. The methodology used to process this data includes a statistical model that compares actual performance to predicted performance for specific patient outcomes. Healthgrades evaluates hospitals solely on clinical outcomes: risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications. Its analysis is based on approximately 40 million Medicare discharges for the most recent three-year time period available. The data measures 27 procedures and diagnoses across 14 service lines and risk-adjusts for each patient’s extenuating conditions.
