Monday, November 19, 2018 San Juan Regional Medical Center Recognized for High Quality CPR Program

In the event of a sudden cardiac arrest, high-quality CPR can be the difference between life and death. San Juan Regional Medical Center is committed to saving lives through High Quality CPR training. In fact, our commitment was recently recognized by the American Heart Association. We are the second hospital in New Mexico and the only hospital in the Four Corners Region to implement Heartcode RQI (Resuscitation Quality Improvement).

With research showing that psychomotor skills related to resuscitation can decay within three to six months, far quicker than the two year Basic Life Support (BLS) skills renewal date, it’s imperative to maintain those skills. Heartcode RQI is an innovative program through the American Heart Association that delivers quarterly training to support mastery of high-quality CPR skills. This comprehensive performance improvement program utilizes advanced simulation stations located throughout the hospital, allowing healthcare workers to refresh vital CPR skills in just minutes every 90 days.

“Our patients have a right to expect the highest quality CPR from their caregivers. Giving our employees the opportunity to constantly refresh those lifesaving skills through Heartcode RQI shows our commitment – not only to our patients, but also to the learning and development of our workforce,” Cydney Farrar, Staff Education Manager, said.

Heartcode RQI is available to clinical staff at San Juan Regional Medical Center, along with basic life support (BLS) and advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) training classes.
