Thursday, May 23, 2024 San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Children’s Discovery Place Earns National Accreditation

San Juan Regional Medical Center’s onsite childcare center, Children’s Discovery Place, has earned reaccreditation through 2029 from the National Association for the Education of Young Children(NAEYC) – the world’s largest organization working on behalf of young children. The Children’s Discovery Place earned a 96 percent.

NAEYC Accreditation is a rigorous and transformative quality-improvement system that uses a set of 10 research-based standards to collaborate with early education programs to recognize and drive quality-improvement in high-quality early learning environments. NAEYC Accreditation ensures that programs are safe, well prepared, and intentional about ensuring children's success. As a reputable indicator of quality, NAEYC Accreditation correlates with children's greater readiness and success in school and beyond; increased educational attainment rates; and overall healthier lifestyles.

“We’re proud to once again earn this mark of quality from NAEYC, and to be recognized for our commitment to a safe, high quality learning environment for the children entrusted to our care,” said Jason Rounds, President and CEO of San Juan Regional Medical Center. “As a recent recipient of the Platinum Family Friendly Business Award®, SJRMC is dedicated to ensuring that our caregivers and their families thrive in the workplace.”

To earn NAEYC Accreditation, Children’s Discovery Place went through an extensive self-study and quality-improvement process, followed by an onsite visit by NAEYC assessors to verify and ensure that the program met each of the standards, and hundreds of corresponding individual criteria.

NAEYC Accreditation is a widely recognized sign of high-quality early childhood education. Less than 10 percent of all childcare centers, preschools and kindergartens national achieve this recognition.

“NAEYC-Accredited programs have committed to a process that takes time, energy and dedication to complete,” said Alissa Mwenelupembe, Senior Director of Early Learning Program Accreditation at NAEYC. “San Juan Regional Medical Center has demonstrated their commitment to young children and their families.”

San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Children’s Discovery Place offers convenient, quality onsite childcare for the children of SJRMC employees, ages six weeks through preschool.
