Somnia Names Donald Helfer II, MD Chief of Anesthesiology at San Juan Regional Medical Center
NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Donald Helfer II, MD, has been named Chief of Anesthesiology at San Juan Regional Medical Center, Farmington, NM. Anesthesia services at the hospital are provided by Resource Anesthesiology Associates of New Mexico, PC, which is managed by Somnia, Inc., a national anesthesia services company based in New Rochelle, New York.
Dr. Helfer, who has more than 20 years of clinical anesthesiology and teaching experience, served as a staff anesthesiologist at the hospital since 2010. He previously held Chief of Anesthesiology positions at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois and at Shiprock Indian Hospital in New Mexico. He is also a member of the volunteer faculty at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque and previously served on the clinical faculty at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He has been an active volunteer with several organizations providing medical care in underserved areas including Global Health Outreach, where he has been involved for more than 10 years.

Board-certified in anesthesiology, Dr. Helfer received his doctor of medicine degree from Washington University. He completed his internship at St. Luke’s Hospital, in St. Louis, and his residency in anesthesiology at Washington University, where he served as chief resident.
