Pedaling For a Cure: Texas 4000 Visits San Juan Medical Foundation and San Juan Regional Cancer Center
Pedaling through the heat and humidity of Texas and into the dry desert of New Mexico, a group of student cyclists on a life-changing and life-saving mission will be in Farmington this week.
The community is invited to join us as we welcome the Texas 4000 to the San Juan Medical Foundation on Thursday, June 14 to raise awareness in the fight against cancer.
Texas 4000 is the longest annual charity bike ride in the world, with student leaders from The University of Texas at Austin pedaling more than 4,500 miles from Austin to Alaska to engage communities in the fight against cancer. Along the way, they share the pillars of HOPE, KNOWLEDGE and CHARITY. Since Texas 4000 was founded in 2003, riders have proudly raised more than $7.2 million for cancer research, treatment and prevention. The Connelly Hospitality House is a recipient of Texas 4000’s charity – receiving donations in 2016 and 2017 to support its mission to provide housing for families of cancer patients.
The students will share their inspirational and transformational messages with the community at the San Juan Medical Foundation at 8:00 a.m. Thursday, June 14 and then ride through the San Juan Regional Cancer Center as they head out of town to their next destination: Bluff, UT. They invite members of the community to share their personal stories and encourage them to dedicate the day’s ride in memory or honor of a cancer fighter.
San Juan Regional Medical Center and the San Juan Medical Foundation are proud to support Texas 4000’s extraordinary efforts on this journey fighting cancer every mile. The San Juan Regional Cancer Center, part of San Juan Regional Medical Center, has been providing compassionate and quality care to cancer patients in the greater Four Corners area for over a decade. Personalized patient care includes state-of-the art treatment; a Cancer Navigator to help patients cope with the physical, emotional and financial stress; support groups for patients, families and caregivers; and the Connelly Hospitality House. The San Juan Medical Foundation works continuously to ensure that funds are available to keep this important facility up and running for those who need it.
