Thursday, May 25, 2023 Texas 4000 Summer Bike Ride to Alaska To Stop at San Juan Medical Foundation

Riders arrive at the Connelly Hospitality House in 2017

Students from the University of Texas at Austin are pedaling their way through the heat and humidity of Texas and into the dry desert of New Mexico on a life-changing and life-saving mission. The group is part of the Texas 4000, the longest annual charity bike ride in the world. The students will ride more than 4,000 miles over the course of 70-days on their cancer fighting journey, engaging local communities in their mission.

We invite our community to join us as we welcome the group traveling the Rockies route on Sunday, June 4, 2023. The students will share their inspirational and transformational messages of hope, knowledge and charity in a presentation starting at 8:00 a.m. outside of the San Juan Medical Foundation. The Foundation, which runs the Connelly Hospitality House, has been a repeat recipient of Texas 4000’s charity to support its mission of providing housing for families of cancer patients.

Since Texas 4000 was founded in 2003, riders have helped raise nearly $13 million dollars for cancer research, treatment and prevention, pedaled more than 5.7 million collective miles and impacted countless lives. Prior to the summer ride, students begin an 18-month leadership development program, preparing their bodies, minds and hearts for this mission, which culminates in this lifechanging journey.

“The commitment these dedicated students have made, biking for 70 days and more than 4,000 miles from Austin to Anchorage, is an inspiration to us all. As we know, cancer touches all of us. Their journey to raise funds and engage communities in the fight against cancer is something we can all stand behind. I hope our community will join us in supporting these students, welcoming them and sending them off strong and ready to tackle the next leg of their journey,” said Jason Rounds, President and CEO of San Juan Regional Medical Center.

San Juan Regional Medical Center and the San Juan Medical Foundation are proud to support Texas 4000’s extraordinary efforts on this journey fighting cancer every mile. The San Juan Regional Cancer Center, part of San Juan Regional Medical Center, has been providing compassionate and quality care to cancer patients in the greater Four Corners area for over a decade. Personalized patient care includes state-of-the art treatment and equipment; a Cancer Navigator to help patients cope with the physical, emotional and financial stress; support groups for patients, families and caregivers; and the Connelly Hospitality House. The San Juan Medical Foundation works continuously to ensure that funds are available to keep this important facility up and running for those who need it.
