SJRMC Now Offering Heart Score Screenings for $99
San Juan Regional Medical Center and San Juan Regional Heart Center are now offering heart score screenings— a computerized tomography (CT) scan of the heart while at rest—for $99. The images are used to determine the presence of coronary calcium buildup and hardening of the arteries, which are indicators of heart disease. Cardiologist, Jude Gabaldon, interprets the cardiac test results and works with patients to develop personalized care plans as needed.
Those at risk for heart disease should consider a cardiac calcium screening. Risk factors for heart disease include men between 40 and 70 and women between 45 and 70, with one or more of the following indicators: post-menopausal, tobacco user (current or former), high blood pressure, diabetic, cholesterol over 200, known vascular disease or family history of heart disease, triglycerides over 100, sedentary or high stress lifestyle, or overweight.
All individuals are encouraged to discuss potential screenings with their primary care provider on a routine basis. An order from a primary care provider is required when a heart score is indicated. Once ordered by the provider individuals may call San Juan Regional Heart Center at 505.609.6760 to schedule. Heart Scores are available for $99 via cash or credit card (non-billable to insurance).
On test day, patients report to Registration at San Juan Regional Medical Center (801 West Maple Street in Farmington) 15 minutes before the scheduled appointment. Heart Scores will be conducted in the radiology department at the hospital.
For more information, talk to your Primary Care Provider at your next routine visit to help determine if you have one or more risk factors indicating Heart Score screening could be of benefit to you.
