SJRMC Receives Healthgrades 2014 Patient Safety Excellence Award
San Juan Regional Medical Center is a recipient of the Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award for 2014, representing the Top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation for patient safety.
The Healthgrades patient safety ratings reflect the quality of care by measuring how well a hospital prevents serious, potentially preventable complications and adverse patient safety events during a patient’s stay. San Juan Regional Medical Center is one of only 381 recipients (two in New Mexico) of the Patient Safety Excellence Award and also among an elite group of hospitals representing the Top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation for patient safety.
“I commend our staff for their diligence to safe patient care and adherence to following practices that reduce risks for everyone,” said hospital President and CEO, Rick Wallace. “Safe care is personalized care and this award reflects our commitment to our mission and our values.”
To evaluate patient safety, Healthgrades uses inpatient data from the Medicare Provider Analysis and Review. They analyze 14 patient safety indicators each of which represent a serious, potentially preventable complication (e.g. death rate among surgical inpatients with serious treatable complications, postoperative sepsis rate, foreign object left during surgery.)
To be eligible for this award a hospital must meet clinical quality thresholds, have zero occurrences of foreign objects left during surgery, and have data on at least seven out of eight core patient safety indicators. The award also highlights hospitals that have achieved better than expected performance across patient safety indicators and solid quality ratings.
