‘A Fair of the Heart’ and Goosebump Walk/Run Set for Saturday, February 12
Farmington, NM (Monday, January 10) – In the human body, the heart is perhaps the most important muscle, beating an average of 35 million times per year and circulating life-critical blood throughout—keeping us alive and doing the things we love.
It takes care and attention to keep the heart healthy and pumping, and upcoming events in February—which is National Heart Month—presented by San Juan Regional Medical Center and San Juan Health Partners Cardiology give the community a great opportunity to get important heart-health information and participate in activities geared toward promoting healthy lifestyles. The following events are great for the whole family:
Goosebump Walk/Run: A three-mile run and one-mile walk will be held on Saturday, February 12, at 11:00 a.m. The Goosebump Walk/Run starts at the San Juan Health Partners Cardiology offices located at 407 South Schwartz Avenue in Farmington. Register early online at www.sanjuanregional.com/goosebump and receive a free event t-shirt. Online registration ends on February 4. Late registration is available the day of the walk/run from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
‘A Fair of the Heart’ Health Fair: This community health fair will be held at the San Juan Health Partners Cardiology offices located at 407 South Schwartz in Farmington from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 12. Blood pressure and cardiac health screenings (including baseline EKG), nutrition and diet information, education materials, and coupons for a free cholesterol screening will be offered. Cardiologists will also be available to answer heart-related questions.
Ask a Cardiologist: Is there such a thing as a broken heart? Do coffee and tea really reduce the risk for heart disease? Why is high blood pressure the silent killer? San Juan Regional Medical Center and San Juan Health Partners Cardiology are pleased to present ‘Ask a Cardiologist’ to be held during the ‘A Fair of the Heart’ health fair on Saturday, February 12 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the San Juan Health Partners Cardiology offices located at 407 South Schwartz in Farmington. Our cardiologists will be available to field any heart-related questions from community members.
Kids Fair: Children and youth can take part in the heart-health celebration and health fair through a number of activities. Kids five and under can download a picture of a heart on www.sanjuanregional.com, color it, and bring their picture to ‘A Fair of the Heart’ on Saturday, February 12, for judging (pictures for coloring will also be available the day of the event). Children six to 12 are encouraged to draw their favorite heart-health activity and also bring their picture to the health fair for judging. Youth from 13 to 17 can calculate their target heart rate, and correct answers will be entered into a drawing for a prize. First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded for all kids’ events.
