Our Healing Spaces

San Juan Regional Medical Center is committed to providing a healing environment for our patients, visitors and caregivers. We invite you to visit our many healing spaces designed to foster peace and tranquility, facilitate healing and promote health.

Healing Garden

Nature has extraordinary healing powers. Our healing garden is the epitome of serenity, offering a tranquil place for patients, visitors and caregivers to rest, relax and reflect among the flowers, trees and water features. We encourage you to explore this soothing outdoor oasis’ many features to restore, rejuvenate and renew.

Serene Seating

Being outside connected to nature can improve your mental health. Our seating includes open benches in the heart of our garden and covered seating alcoves that provide a peaceful place to sit and enjoy some fresh air in a serene setting.

Reflecting Pond

Water has a therapeutic effect, providing comfort and solace. We invite you to take a seat and listen to the sounds of the water, creating a calming environment of deep relaxation as it releases stress and tension.

Shimmering Wings Butterfly

The metal and glass butterfly sculpture was donated to San Juan Regional Medical Center by local artist Christy Clugston. Butterflies represent hope and new beginnings, and art has the power to transform and heal.

Hope Sculpture

“Hope” is a limestone sculpture created specifically for our Healing Garden, inspiring a sense of tranquility. Visitors are invited to sit on the sculpture, which is also a bench, to be comforted by the warmth of the stone and feel Hope’s embrace.

Meditative Labyrinth

Labyrinths have long been used as a meditative and healing tool. Our labyrinth, a Chartres design, offers reflective meditation and nurturing for the body, mind and spirit. Walking a labyrinth can be a way of relaxing and discovering answers to our deepest questions.

Meditation Rooms

Each patient floor has a meditation room at the far end of the East Tower. These multipurpose rooms were designed in the shape of a Navajo Hogan with the door facing the east to welcome the rising sun, and windows facing each direction. Featuring earth tones and soft, natural light, the rooms are warm and welcoming and serve a variety of functions. Not only is it a place for quiet reflection and beautiful outdoor views, patients and families can gather here to hold family meetings or healing ceremonies.

Chapel

Our chapel, located on the main floor of the hospital near the Emergency Department, is a welcoming space open to anyone who needs some quiet reflection or prayer time. The seats form an oval like a chapter house with the whole room visible from any seat. A simple round alter table adorns the middle of the room.

The design incorporates light from the outdoors with beautiful stained-glass windows depicting the natural sights that uplift and sustain our spirits, alongside Moon Doves, a one-of-a-kind three-dimensional art piece donated by Albuquerque artist Hilda Volkin.

All are welcome in our chapel and meditation rooms 24/7 for quiet prayer, reflection, or meditation. Learn more about healing the body and the spirit through our sacred spaces.
