:
Patients and family members can request a pet therapy visit. Call the Information Desk at 505.609.6280, to schedule a visit. A pet therapy visit can last up to ten minutes.
Most of our therapy teams work during the day, but when we get a request we do our best to dispatch someone as quickly as possible. Sometimes it is several hours before the team can get there. Often the dogs need to be brushed before they can enter San Juan Regional Medical Center. As much notice as possible is helpful, but we will do our best to dispatch quickly if necessary.
Research studies have proven that interaction with animals can reduce blood pressure, lower anxiety and stress levels, stimulate the release of endorphins, encourage exercise and increase a sense of community.
